Tidbit about thingee in Spielberg's A.I.
Hey folks, Harry here.. Well, according to popular mythology, the robots in A.I. as Kubrick was developing them looked exactly like the robots in that BORK, JORK, WVORK... however you type it, video. (P.S. just kidding, I know it's Bjork... I just did that to give El Cosmico a momentary brain hernia) Basically, Chris Cunningham (I believe was the blokes' name) had been in talks with Kubrick about this stuff. Now... me? Well, I hate thin spindly robots. Robots were meant to look like Hot Water Heaters with air conditioning hoses. A robot is not a robot unless it is clunky, goofy and cool. As for the tidbit about the actors from ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS being at the San Diego Comic Con... Way Cool. Definately need to go talk to them. Classic martian film!
Hi, Harry-
I'm a longtime lurker but I've come across a couple of little developments
that may interest you...
1. I spoke at length with a modelbuilder working for Stan Winston Studios
while I was at the Pasadena Mad Model Party (a garage model kit convention).
The gentleman was working on study models and macquets for "A.I.", mainly
robots and futuristic machinery. Said gentleman described the robots as
being very thin and spindley, sort of a cross between an Episode One battle
droid and a human skeleton with some Syd Mead-like sensibilities to it.
2. I've read recently of your upcoming trip to ComiCon and I've also read of
your enthusiasm for "Robinson Crusoe on Mars". Well, Paul Mantee and
(perhaps- it's not yet confirmed) Vic Lundin are planning on attending
ComiCon. They should have a booth and will be autographing photos and lobby
cards from that Martian classic. Look for them, I'm sure that they would
love to talk to you. Vic might be a bit difficult to recognize if you
haven't seen him recently but Paul Mantee still looks as good as ever, just
with grey, somewhat thinning hair.
My two cents-
Netark
