Herc Gives the Final ANGEL of 2002 Four Stars!!

Angel 4.7 FAQ

What’s it called?

“Apocalypse, Nowish.”

Who’s responsible?

Teleplay is credited to Steven S. DeKnight (“Deep Down”).

We’re really not seeing new “Angel” until 2003?

Yep! Next week its timeslot goes to a repeat of “Reba”!

What does TV Guide say?

“Angel and company brace for the imminent arrival of a hellish beast and toil to stave off Judgment Day (yet again). Although the creature's coming was initially revealed through Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), she is unable to dredge up the ghastly specifics about the otherworldly visitor from her spotty memory. Only one thing is certain - the demon will bring about the end of the world if no one stops it. With no other choice, Angel partners with Lilah (Stephanie Romanov) to fight the common threat. Meanwhile, Fred and Gunn get sidetracked by a bump in their relationship. Cordy and Connor, on the other hand, pair up to hunt down the menace themselves.”

What is TV Guide not telling us?

Los Angeles : Apocalypse Nowish :: New York : Ghostbusters. All hour, we get heaping helpings of the “real Old Testament stuff.”

So Lilah doesn’t want to bring on the apocalypse?

Who knows what Lilah wants? Apparently The Beast’s apocalypse is somehow not the apocalypse Worfram & Hart want. But of course Lilah is constantly plotting against Angel despite her firm’s wishes, so it’s all terribly confusing.

Dogs and cats – sleeping together?

Not specifically, but that’s the gist.

The big news?

Though Cordy has reacquired all her earthly memories, she elects to continue bunking over at Connor’s.

The bigger news?

The “We were” that concluded last week's episode is upgraded this week to “I love you. I always will.”

So are Cordy and Angel boyfriend-girlfriend now?

Ha!

Well, why not? “Perfect moment of happiness” problems?

You’d think. But get this: “What I remembered when I was a higher being. I remember seeing you, your past when you were Angelus,” she explains. “I could look back and see everything you ever did as Angelus. More than see. I felt it. Not just their fear and pain. I felt you... and how much you enjoyed making them suffer. I love you, Angel... but I can't be with you. It's just too soon. Maybe if we just gave it a little time.”

What does Cordy not remember?

She seems to have all her earthly memories back, but apparently the only thing she does remember clearly from her summer of higher-being is the Angelus chronicles.

What’s up with Krevlornswath?

He now seems to be on staff at Angel Investigations, working the phones, mapping the armageddon.

What’s up with Wes’ love life? Is he over Lilah now that his eye is back on Fred?

Perhaps Herc’s favorite thing in the whole episode is the means Lilah employs to successfully seduce Wes. I am loathe to ruin it, but the scene is brilliant.

How are things going with Winifred and Charles?

“We haven't even touched each other since... since we murdered Professor Seidel,” whines Fred.

Does Cordelia still get visions?

Yes. Her eyes go all white during the one she gets this week. Did that used to happen?

Does she still have demony superpowers?

The vision gives her a headache, but she suggests that’s because it’s a super-intense vision – and not because she lost her demon-visionguard superpower. “The visions are usually like a lawn sprinkler. This was like Niagara.”

Do we learn how or why she got out of the boring bright-light place?

“I can't remember how,” sighs Cordy. “Am I on vacation? Did I go cosmic AWOL? Did I do something to piss off the powers that be and get kicked out? I mean, why am I here?”

Does Wes rejoin Team Angel this week?

He’s aboard to help the gang play Ghostbusters, but there’s no suggestion he’s going back on Angel Investigation’s payroll.

And the lightning lass? Does the fabulous Gwen Raiden lurk about?

Not this week.

But she’s coming back?

This I swear.

The last “Angel” until 2003? Is there a mammoth ending?

Of course.

What’s great?

The Wes-Lilah scene. The Beast’s surprising connection to Connor. “Nobody wants that.” Angel going through the piller. Wes with the pistols. All the cinematic meteorological and seismic phenonmena. All the dead actors and models. It’s hard to imagine any “Angel” fan would contemplate missing this one. The mammoth ending.

What’s not so great?

This “visions of Angelus’ past” excuse to keep Cordy away from Angel strikes Herc as the lamest, man! We all know the real reason they can’t hook up is because Angel might get too happy and turn into the evil Angelus. (And everybody knows if there’s ever a cure to Angel’s “happiness” problem, there’s going to be an Angel-size hole in the side of the Hyperion where Angel started his journey back to Sunnydale.) Also? When Angel hesitates at the end, it seems out of character. Inviso-text on: In truth, Angel should be just as capable of getting the job done tonight as Angelus. But I guess that wouldn’t fit with future plans.

What’s a “moussaka” again?

Mediterranean entrée made with eggplant, potatoes and ground beef. Herc believes he’d enjoy one right now. Oh, and? Hercules is the Roman demigod. Heracles is what they call me in Greece.

How does it end, spoiler-boy?

“And if this is the end... I want you to have something that is.

Hi! I'm an irresponsible asswipe who ruined tonight's episode for myself by reading a way-too-detailed summary elsewhere! If I try to ruin tonight's episode for others by revealing key details in Coaxial News talkbacks before the episode airs, will I be banned?

Yes!
