Alien Fabric sought for SUPERMAN'

Hey folks, Harry here... I just hope they do something as remarkably stunning as Halle Berry's CATWOMAN costume... cuz that was pretty damn Alien looking to me. Specifically coming from Uranus I believe. Bad joke... I know, I hope that whatever they come up with for SUPERMAN, that they pay attention to what MARVEL has been doing, in that... the original costumes and looks of the heroes are VERY IMPORTANT. They're iconic. Nobody wants to see glitter glam-rock Superman... Nor does anyone particularly want to see Superman looking anything like NEO. He needs to look exactly like SUPERMAN, otherwise... just call him something else and don't shit on Superman. Oh wow, can't believe that soapbox held my weight? It must be an alien soapbox!

Hey Harry,

DocPazuzu here with a tidbit of information on the upcoming Superman movie. Although far from a scoop, it's certainly interesting -- if a bit alarming. Costume designer Kym Barrett of Matrix, From Hell and Three Kings fame, was interviewed in the Swedish newspaper Borås Tidning today. While mostly spending her time talking about the Matrix films, she did offer some info on the Superman project which she's currently working on.

This is the relevant passage of the article:

And what about Superman? How are those tights coming along?

"I can't say very much about that right now, but we are working on the construction of the fabric for the costume. We have a bunch of chemical engineers and fabric designers working together and trying to invent a new, exciting material. You have to bear in mind that Superman is an extraterrestrial, from an entirely different planet, so the fabric must not resemble anything we have here on Earth."

The film is planned to begin shooting in May and June 2004 and is more than a year away from being on screen. There isn't even an actor chosen for the part of Superman yet, but Kym says they do have a favorite in the run -- a secret, of course.

"He's an unknown actor, but he's gorgeous."

I hope this qualifies for a mention on AICN. It certainly has the requisite type of info to ignite a particularly venomous TB. No matter where one stands, alien fabrics and unknown actors will no doubt rile more than a few people, and please as many.
