A director is attached to that new FRIDAY THE 13TH flick...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now the knee-jerk reaction to the announcement of the director that is in final negotiations to helm the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake/reimagining/rewhatever is going to be pretty negative.

The director, barring a last minute balls-up, is going to be Jonathan Liebesman who helmed the terrible DARKNESS FALLS, the surprisingly good bridge between RING and RING 2 called RINGS and the question mark that is the TEXAS CHAINSAW prequel.

Apparently the folks at Platinum Dunes liked what he did on CHAINSAW since they're in controll of this FRIDAY flick as well.

Frankly, Liebesman to me isn't a positive or a negative (until I see the CHAINSAW prequel, that is) for this project. I'm more concerned about how they're handling this movie. It's a remake... but Jason will be in it (with mask, I assume) and killing. I can handle a reimagining as long as it could just as easily be a sequel or at the very least fit into the world the original series.

DARKNESS FALLS was a turd, but I liked the look of the film. RINGS looked great and the tiny bit I saw on my short visit to the CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel set (more on that soon) was promising. Liebesman has a lot to prove, that's for sure. If all he does is throw in a few hot college age nekkid girls and some inventive gore shots then he'll be on par with the rest of the series. Hopefully he'll go the extra mile, step up to the plate and knock this one out of the park.
