For a change of pace, let's talk about something we can't buy.
Now that Paramount has issued season-set DVDs for every season of “Star Trek” ever made (save the early-‘70s animated series, rumored to bow later this year), the company has been slapping together slightly more affordable franchise-spanning sets focused on Trek's characters and concepts.
But the first of these concept sets, “Star Trek: Borg,” was due out today, March 7. It was long offered on any number of online retail sites – and then it suddenly wasn’t. There’s a story behind that I’ll wager!
For the curious, here’s what was going to be on the set you cannot buy today:
* The sole “Enterprise” episode on the set was to be “Regeneration” (like the rest of “Enterprise,” a sequel to “First Contact”).
* The six “Next Generation” episodes were to be “Q Who?” both hours of “Best of Both Worlds,” “I Borg” and both hours of “Descent.”
* The nine “Voyager” episodes were to be both hours of “Scorpion,” “Drone,” both hours of “Dark Frontier,” both hours of “Unimatrix Zero” and both hours of “Endgame.”
And just because I was curious enough to look it up, here’s what’s on the “Time Travel” that is still for sale:
* Two episodes from the Kirk-Spock series: “Tomorrow is Yesterday” and “The City on the Edge of Forever.”
* Six episodes from the Picard-Data series: “Yesterday’s Enterprise,” “Cause and Effect,” both hours of “Time’s Arrow” and both hours of “All Good Things …”
* Two episodes from the Sisco-Quark series: “Little Green Men” and “Trials and Tribbleations.”
* Four episodes from the Janeway-Six series: both hours of “Year of Hell” and both hours of “Endgame.”
And, what the hey, we don’t yet know what’s on “Star Trek: Q” , but here’s an educated guess:
* Nine episodes from the Troi-Crusher: both hours of “Encounter at Farpoint,” “Hide and Q,” “Q Who?” “Deja Q,” “Qpid,” “True Q,” and both hours of “All Good Things … “
* The Odo-Dax series serving up “Q-Less.”
* And the EMH-Neelix series we guess kicks in three more: “Deathwish,” “The Q and the Grey” and “Q2.”
