Hell of Unwanted Remakes Part 2: CLIFFHANGER To Dangle Once More!!

Merrick here...
I AM LEGEND & FAST & FURIOUS producer Neal Moritz is revamping Renny Harlin's 1993 Stallone-vs-mountain thriller CLIFFHANGER.
A big-budget international action-adventure thriller set in a big mountain milieu, the makeover of Renny Harlin's 1993 pic will center on a group of young climbers. "Just as they rebooted 'Star Trek,' we're going to do the same with 'Cliffhanger,' " said Moritz, who will produce. Unlike the original, where Italy stood in for the Colorado Rockies, the new redo looks set to feature multiple cliff-face locations.
...says THIS VARIETY WRITE-UP. Although it evidently has something of a following, I was never a huge fan of the original CLIFFHANGER. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. I recall Lithgow being swishy and rather ineffectual as the villain, although I do remember the ending fight...didn't it involve some sort of rope ladder-thing?...being pretty cool. And, with all respect to Neal, rebooting CLIFFHANGER is in no way similar to re-approaching STAR TREK in notion, significance, or scale. If memory serves, a Stallone-starring sequel to the original film was actually mulled - something about a dam if rumors were correct/if I recall accurately. From what Moritz is saying above, doesn't sound like this will play into the new film at all.
