Oh COME ON! Do these fucking directors even take character into consideration anymore or is it literally just a hype thing. Theres plenty of young actors who dont come off like a wet noodle but nope, this guys comin up and god dammit they need to put him in as many movies as possible. That is seriously as off base as you could get. I've seen this kid in person a few times in LA and nothing against him but there doesn't look to be a tough bone in his body. He's pale as a ghost and his features are of a distinct eastern european vibe. I mean christ they are trying to say that in 10 years he grows into Michael Biehn??? Not on your fucking life. Besides that there isn't a single thing in his catalogue that would suggest he could play a convincing warrior, even one in his formative years. He always plays slouching sad cases. Seriously what the fuck is McG on?
I would ask "how long before the show is cancelled"...
by Shermdawg
Mar 19th, 2008
02:36:20 AM
...but that would just lead to someone justifiably asking the same of Smallville, then I'd argue that Smallville is a seperate entity from the films, to which someone would claim the same for The Sarah Connor Chronicles (which we all know isn't true), and I'd reply with a nuh-uh, and they'd answer with a yeah-huh, and it'd drag on over a five hundred or so post talkback, only to die once the story is bumped off the main page, and then be resurrected once Herc posts the official announcement of the cancelling in Coaxial, which will then lead to the debate to get even more heated, and then Merrick gets involved and brings to our attention in a fan petition to reverse Fox's decision with a campaign similar to the infamous Jericho "nuts" deal......only this time it's "screws"....because y'know, like "Fox screwed up" and because the Terminators are machines and have......yeah, you get the idea.

I don't want to trigger those events by making that comment, so I won't.

It's like Hollywood has taken that next step of finding stars pre-puberty and grooming them to be the megastars of tomorrow even if they're not talented enough to deserve the opportunity. Sorry, but ol' Shia will never be worth my dollar no matter how much you shove him down my throat. Shit, I mean, first we have all those teenage lolitas in the 90s (Britney, Christina, Mandy, Jessica, etc.) who were rammed in our faces. Then came Shia and Hannah Montana. God, what next? Is Holywood going to start genetically breeding these actors and choosing the traits they want before they implant them, have them birthed, and then use them as celluloid slaves for their entire lifetimes (which will be only until the age of 30 for women and 40 for men, their genetics having them die before they are no longer marketable)? Whatever happened to casting talented, though not superhot, actors? Oh, and as for Terminator 4, since I ran way off tangent, even with Bale I say fuck it. I'm not paying to see some kid befriend a fucking robot. BTW, Kyle even said the early ones had rubber skin, etc. Exactly how long have Terminators been the fuck around?
Just a question.

That role should have gone to Paul McGillion but fanboys being what they are led to that ridiculous casting becoming real. Here we have another ridiculous casting just for the sake of milking the Terminator film-come-studio franchise. It's one thing having a TV series of a popular film to to make a cinematic movie of a story the TV show can easily cover (and probably will differently) is another thing. We simply don't need to see what young Kyle and John were up to before the war or yet another tale of how the robots rose to power in yet another alternate timeline. If they want to do a story, then do one on the original father of John Connor in the original timeline set before Kyle Reese came back in time, from their future to fuck Sarah before he had a chance to meet the bitch!

How come nobody bitches about T2, which has the same dumbass Terminator-boy-love story? 'Cause the FX were good and it had Arnold? There is no Terminator movie but the first one. The second stuffed a fat cock in the dook chute of the continuity anyway and the third one was just a big apology for it (and an excuse to make 4). I just caught the first Terminator on TCM a couple of nights ago. I thought I'd watch a few scenes and then go do something else, but it still had the power to suck me in. BLAM! Thump.... Seriously, I loved T2 when I saw it in high school, but it doesn't hold up with repeated viewings - particularly not when compared to the original which is a stand alone, self contained continuum. T2 fucks up the story for the sake of bringing Arnie back as a lameass good Terminator. Bad To The Bone plays when he puts the sunglasses on...its pretty lame.

Firstly, dont compare Deniro's casting to this shmuck, you shmuck. Secondly kill the franchise now before McG ruins this generations understanding of the greatness of the original material. This like the alien franchise should have been killed off long ago and, like AvP and T3, this will not get my 12$ nor will it get yours. Lastly i think audiences tastes are changing, considering the number of low budget independants that are now being distributed and sold under big studios. They do make money and could well change the industry in the next ten years. Here's hoping. Oh and the kid looks retarded and not at all like previous Johns, McG is a whore.

...because you saw the future of the Terminator franchise coming over the horizon, and it was not good. I mean there's something seriously fucked up in the world when a tv show, that's on the brink of cancellation no less, does better and more respectful to the source material Terminator than the huge budget sequel movies do.

"The 600 series had rubber skin, we spotted them easy, well except for my buddy who turned out to be a Terminator, somehow we didn't spot him at all. But these are new, well, as long as you don't count by continuity altering Terminator pal anyway, sweat, bad breath, everything. Very hard to spot. and goes against the concept laid down in the first film. The human style endoskeletons appeared to be a late addition to the machines warefare ( I assuume hunter killer tanks and planes were their normal form} and only in the wars last stages , they began creating human copies to infiltrate the resistance movements.Even then the first of these were meant to be rubber skinned and pretty obvious..its only a short time before arnie is sent back that the cyborgs are created...Therefor young kyle would be friends with an obvious rubbery robot at best!

I said at the time, wouldn't it be cool if Arnie was one of John Connor's closest most trusted generals and THAT was who Skynet chose to model their first skinjob on?

That's exactly the experience I had seeing Terminator for the first time in '85. Knew absolutely nothing about the movie beforehand, saw it on a double bill with Rambo: First Blood part II, which was the reason me and my friends had gone to this double bill in the first place, and was absolutely blown away by the experience of seeing Terminator after Rambo. It really was something amazing at the time, and one of the best experiences I ever had inside of a cinema. I miss being able to walk into films like that knowing nothing ahead of time, and just getting my ass completely kicked into the back wall of the theatre. But in our media soaked age that's just no longer possible.

At least, that's the only way I can see it fit into the existing story.

Now the kid may be an excellent actor, but I'm getting really tired of having young kids take over main leads in action movies. Just like they want to make Jack Ryan younger then even when Ben played him.

What the fuck happened to actors playing bad assess who are actually old enough and battle worn to fit the part?

without knowing it was a terminator. Kyle himself said before the t-800(arnold's model) all the terminators had rubber skin and were easy to pick out on the battlefield. However on the SCC Skynet sent more advanced models back in time that are capable of fitting into normal life(one had a human wife). WIth that said it still makes no sense since the franchise runners said SCC has no bearing on the movies.

The man more than held his own opposite Ed Harris (in both The Abyss and The Rock), Sigourney Weaver (in Aliens), and Val Kilmer (in Tombstone), being one of the best things about all of those movies. On top of that if you've ever seen In A Shallow Grave, Lords Of Discipline, Rampage, or even some of his earlier work in a great arc on Hill Street Blues or the horror/thriller The Fan, you'd know what this guy was capable of, and why it's such a damn shame that his career seemed to largely stall in the 90's, as he became relegated to direct to video hell. Likewise take a look at his performances in little seen flicks like K2, The 7th Sign or The Ride. The man has much more talent that he's given credit for, and he was great in the original Terminator to boot.

The average 12 million or so movie goers out there don't give a shit about continuity. They don't know, and they don't care. But the 50,000 film geeks who pay attention to the stuff they watch do care. But they're such a small fraction of the movie going audience that I guess some execs just don't feel they need to pay attention to them or their views.

I went on to say that it's a shame the studio execs don't listen to us film geeks, because if they did, they might actually make a Terminator movie that is not only good, but one that also makes SENSE!

As for the T2 continuity error of sending back more machines after the first time travel machine was destroyed, isn't it possible that, if they can build more and more terminators, they could also build more and more time machines?

I don't much care for McG or his movies. I didn't like T3 at all. Didn't like John, didn't care for Claire Danes' character, and I also think Arnie phoned in that performance. Not to mention the total illogic of them walking/running in to the heart of a massively fortified military base like they were going in to a 7-11. DUMB.I don't think I'll give this new movie my money

Look at the picture ! The guy have half his face falling down, his left eye is lower than the right eye ! So this is what we get now, mOnsters casts in mythical franchises ? MCG producer and director. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. With a psychology degree from UC Irvine, McG started as a still photographer in the music business, shooting local bands and musicians with whom he was friendly. All their careers tanked. He produced the debut album by Sugar Ray, Lemonade and Brownies. Bands that made it big. Eventually, this led him to direct music videos, namely many for Korn which with their vomits obsession, appealed to him. His "films" (as wannabe director) include Charlie's Angels, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, We Are Marshall. His television series include Fastlane, The O.C., Supernatural, Chuck and Pussycat Dolls Present: Search for the Next Doll. He has, according to the producers, signed on to direct the next installment of the Terminator franchise: Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Chances are he won't salvage anything, but more like destroy the franchise.

Why the fuck are they throwing in Kyle Reese? I can understand a possible cameo, but the only reason why they make this kind of announcement this early is to show this will be a central character in the movie with John Connor. The movie should focus on the war and John and leave Kyle out of the central plot.

As for the "friends with Terminator benefits", that has all the stink of the television series where they showed terminators assisting the rebels before turning on them unexpectedly.

I was hoping this movie would rock and the television series would attempt to match the movie's quality, but its looking like this movie is attempting to match the television series. T4 - The Kyle Reese Chronicles

He's a clone of a dead resistance fighter with a computer chip in his brain, which allows Skynet to periodically control him. Even he doesn't know he's not the real Marcus as his memories are all jumbled up after being injured. He's mostly man, but partially a machine - an experimental cyborg rather than an early Terminator - and he's constantly battling Skynet's orders without knowing it. If handled right, Kyle Reese's hatred for machines (which should be present even at a young age) is only be intensified when he discover his "friend" has had his brain scooped out by Skynet and is being forced to turn against the resistance. My bet is that Kyle is the one who ultimately terminates Marcus before Connor sends him back in time.

So an actor's given hair color does not matter. 2. To whoever is wishing for a Ghostbusters 3 movie. That boat has sailed unfortunately, I know I for one don't want to see the older, fatter versions of the Ghostbusters, or let alone, them training a new generation to spin off into a new franchise. The video game is the only way we can see the Ghostbusters in their prime in new adventures. It's sad, but true. But the game actually does look pretty badass, that's just me though. 3. Just be glad we're getting a sequal to Terminator instead of a reboot the franchise remake as seems to be the trend in Hollywood. The only original films I ever see mentioned on here are indie, intellectual stuff that's usually not my sort of thing. And now they're even remaking stuff from not that long ago. God, how much longer do you think before they decide to remake Jurassic Park, or remake all the John Hughes movies with the High School Musical cast....shoot me now...no I'm sorry, I meant shoot them.

I think if you step back and think a moment, the plotline (should it be true) makes perfect sense. Should Reese befriend a Terminator, without knowing it obviously, and then the Terminator betrays him, it would completely explain his hatred and disdain for the Terminators. Just my two cents...

"He's a clone of a dead resistance fighter with a computer chip in his brain, which allows Skynet to periodically control him. My bet is that Kyle is the one who ultimately terminates Marcus before Connor sends him back in time."

Now, THAT would actually be good! It would fit in well with the existing mood of the the original film.

I seriously wanted to punch Charlie Bartlett in the face. There were times he had my sympahty and then he pisses it away by running out and doing something annoying, like going out to the crowd and announcing that he just mated with a woman. Zap Brannigan did it better. So does this take place almost immediately after the initial attack because Yelchin doesn't look like he could survive in post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Seriously, I like the idea that Kyle Reese's character starts out being a wide-eyed kid, looking up to his commander, who happens to be his son... I always wanted to see that dynamic on screen. I have a serious man-crush on Bale, and I'm hoping his excellence balances out the floating turd that is McG.

What I can't stand, CAN'T FUCKING STAND, is yet another sub-plot with terminator love. Why, why why can't these lethal, soulless, killing machines just be left to be what they were intended to be? I know they represent our own capacity for mindless killing, our own spiritual sense of spiritual vertigo in the face of the abyss of nihilistic emptiness, but can't we please just see them slaughter a bunch of motherfuckers, please?? T2 was excellent, and the father figure subplot was necessary, and carried off well by everyone involved, but that's where it should have ended. I hate this hollywood habit of constantly trading on the successes of past sequels, upgrading plot points for the 'now' generation... it sickens me. I don't want to see anyone 'befriend' another goddamn terminator. I want to see rubber skin being burned off by heavy arms fire and waves upon waves of human soldiers being ripped to pieces by terminators in various stages of human drag. It's not fucking rocket science.

Anyway, does anyone have any fucking good news today or what?

The future from which Kyle Reese came from should be the same future that the movies are leading up to. Kyle Reese was ALWAYS John Connor's dad, hence the significance of the photograph in the first movie. The photograph that John Connor gives to Kyle Reese is EXACTLY the same photograph that Sarah Connor has taken AFTER she kills the Terminator. More importantly, she never would have taken the picture if the events of the movie had not occured, indicating that everything that happens HAS to happen exactly as it happens. Nothing should have ever been changed, nothing should have ever been delayed, and there should not be two versions of the future. The first movie in fact implies that nothing can be changed at all. Anything that happens in any of the movies should lead directly to the EXACT same future that Kyle Reese came from.

I'm not too familiar with the kid but I don't got a problem with him. Let's be honest, Michael Biehn is not Charles Bronson. And if Edward Furlong can grow up into Christian Bale I don't see why this guy can't grow up into Biehn. Somebody else probaly mentioned this already but the more troubling news in the article is that Paul Haggis is in talks to rewrite the script. I should probaly cut the guy some slack because I have liked some of his movies, and I heard IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH was pretty good. And he didn't ruin CASINO ROYALE. But after seeing CRASH it's hard not to picture him being the guy who took the CASINO ROYALE script and said "wait, this part where she's in the shower and her devastated expression communicates everything we need to know? How about we also have her SAY IT OUT LOUD!" Or all those speeches in FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS. I am still suspicious of the guy, as if he was a Terminator.

As for Sam Worthington being a Terminator, that sounds like either a mistake in the article or a huge spoiler. Isn't he supposed to be the lead character of the trilogy?

That's the only way that the numerous continuity glitches in the series makes sense. Connor and Co. in the past kept pushing back Judgement Day's date, so then all these screwy things could happen, and the rubber skin guys could have been wiped from history. But that's a pretty weak explaination, along with "Cormarie's head had flesh on it".

The "Cormarie's head had flesh on it" explanation was almost, almost enough for me to turn it off once and for all, but I stuck it out, because I was able to take a deep breath and accept deep down in my heart that it wasn't a real Terminator story. more of a "what if", or a "Frasier" type spinoff.

12:46:06 PM
Even though T2 had this sort of theme going on that Judgement Day could be stopped, I don't see that as being necesarily contradictory to the first movie. Like, I know that very few records survived Judgement Day. But if the records had survived, one could see them accurately reflecting everything that happened in Terminator or T2. For example, if one were to look up the records for Miles Dyson, one could conceivably imagine that there would be reference to him blowing up the Cyberdyne research center for reasons unknown. And for every person who the Terminators killed, one could imagine that in the future from which Kyle Reese came from, the records would bear out the fact that they died on exactly the same time and place that they died in the movies. Hell, even the existence of the first Terminator's arm and CPU. One could argue that Terminator 2 had to happen in order to prevent Judgement Day from happening BEFORE the date that it's supposed to happen. Rather than the destruction of the Terminator parts delaying Judgement Day past its original date, one could see the events of T2 as ensuring that Judgement Day happens ON THE ORIGINAL DATE. But T3 fucked it up early on in the movie, and here's how. The T-X has a list of targets to kill, AND SHE ACTUALLY KILLS THEM. Now THAT is blatantly contradictory. That should not happen. Because if they are the T-X's targets, that means that they are alive in the future. When the T-X kills them, that is actually the very first time in the entire series when we clearly and undeniably start to deal with TWO futures. One could certainly argue that that never even happened in T2. And as far as T2 occuring at all, I am willing to concede that the good Terminator went through the time machine after Kyle Reese, and that Kyle Reese never knew about it. And then they blew up the time machine. I'm willing to allow that. Because that's only two bad guys and two good guys going through the time machine before it is destroyed. But with T3 and SCC, apparently more people keep on going through the time machine. And eventually it gets to the point where I'm like, "Jesus christ, do these guys really have any intention of blowing up the time machine at all? How many fucking people are they gonna keep sending through it?"

Besides, EVERYTHING is merely a "detail". The idea that some things have to happen, while other things are allowed to change doesn't make sense to me anyway. Everything is merely an event, and as far as causality goes, there should be nothing distinguishing one event from any other. Regardless, neither The Terminator nor Terminator 2 had a single clear instance of anything being changed, so I'm going to go with the interpretation of time travel provided by the movies. If you choose not to, that is your decision and I do not have a problem with that.

by samsquanch
Mar 19th, 2008

At the end of T2, it was still conceivable that nothing had changed. There's no explanation for why, assuming that the events of the 1st movie didn't affect Commander Connor's 'present' (our future) there would be a need to send back reprogrammed Ahnold, but one assumes that after some incidental period of time, the T1000 was sent through Skynet's own time machine, swiftly followed by Arnie, thus leading to the sequel. I always assumed that it was Skynet's final bid for victory, it may have even happened IMMEDIATELY after Reese was sent through, but somehow I don't like that idea.

Anyway, you're right, the Terminatrix killing Connor's agents was the first obvious time paradox- how would she know to kill them if they didn't exist in the future?

Also, Arnold tells young adult Connor in T3 that they didn't stop Judgment Day, they only 'delayed' it, which bothered me, because that retroactively establishes that the events of T2 actually DID change the future, which I stubbornly reject, from the core of my dork heart. Those were just two of the problems, not even getting into some of the deeper problems with the mythos, for example, how do the humans survive the radiation in a nuclear wasteland, and, why don't the machines just wage chemical or biological warfare on the humans, but I'm getting into sacriligious territory here, so I'll stop.

by messi
Mar 19th, 2008
02:10:38 PM
sure you can say it creates a paradox if she kills the guys but then again how is Kyle Reese John Connor's father? Because it's not a linear timeline, but a maleable one similar to the way Time Travel works in DC Comics with Booster Gold and Rip Hunter currently, that time adjusts itself but details change. And remember in T1 John Connor sent Kyle Reese from 2027 where they won the war, but sending Kyle back changed the future and suddenly the war was still going on in 2029 where John sent Arnold back. Remember, it's all fiction anyway and you can't say there is contradictions etc becaue you're arguing that from the mentallity that you know the specifics of time travel.

just to prove the TBers wrong. T3 contradicted the first two films, the TV series continues to do so...yet somehow this casting proves to be more controversial than either of those? T3 and the series work...and whoever above said that Terminator was a B-movie that happened to work is 100% right. I doubt that it was planned for T1 to lay the groundwork for a big budget sequel. If it's an "all out man v machine war" you're looking for...that'd be a bit boring wouldn't it? This Marcus character adds a gray area to an otherwise black and white war. And I'm sure (considering the nods the series stretches its neck out to make) they'll take into consideration Reese's personality in T1.

It had flesh on it. No it fucking didn't, it clearly was just endoskeleton skull. Even if it had flesh on it, it still WOULD have flesh on it when it arrived, only dead stuff doesn't go through.

The best explaination is that the people who make the show are too stupid to realise how badly they've messed up simple conventions of the series. Since when could T-800 models remotely control body parts? If that was the case the original Terminator could have used his blown off legs to kick Sarah's head in while the torso distracted her.

Also this Terminator/Kyle betrayal thing reeks of shitty storytelling. Mass genocide of the majority of the human race is not enough motivation for hating machines? No, he needs to be 'emotionally betrayed'. What shit! Does he braid Reese's hair wrong leading to him being picked on?

"I was embarrassed at the annual Judgement Day Remembrance Ball...how could you Marcus?" "Bwahhaaahaaa, that was Skynet's plan all along, to stop you being a fierce and charismatic leader by making everyone think you are a loser! We win puny human!"
